Shenko, Christina A., M.D.

Dr. Shenko's clinical interests include caring for people from medically under-served communities, women’s and maternal-child health, integrative and lifestyle medicine, and full-spectrum reproductive health care. At Middlesex, she practices full-scope family medicine, including inpatient medicine and obstetrics, and leads our curricula in family planning, pregnancy care, medication-assisted treatment of substance use disorders, and outpatient procedural care. Prior to joining Middlesex Health, Dr. Shenko served as founding core faculty at the Harlem Residency in Family Medicine program in New York City, where she was core faculty for seven years and the director of the maternity care curriculum. She completed her family medicine residency at the Beth Israel Residency in Urban Family Practice, also in New York City. In addition to her family medicine board certification, she is a medical acupuncturist and has significant experience in lactation medicine.

What I like best about working at Middlesex...

The friendly and welcoming community was the very first thing that drew me to Middlesex Health, and it's been a pleasure to get to know and learn from this wonderful community.

My favorite thing to do with residents is...

To help them develop their manual skills for procedural care! Whether it's performing a joint injection, placing an IUD or delivering a baby, I really enjoy helping our physicians-in-training expand their physical, as well as intellectual, doctoring skills.

What I do for fun...

Most of my time outside of work is usually spent outdoors and with my family - my daughters and I have been learning to ski in order to enjoy all four seasons of New England's recreation opportunities! When indoors, we are usually cooking or reading together. I also enjoy running and hiking and am exploring native plants and permaculture gardening these days.
