ZionDr. Kalinowski joined the residency faculty in 2021.  After completing his training at Middlesex, he worked in a busy outpatient Family Medicine practice in Higganum, Connecticut for eleven years. As a result, he was repeatedly voted a Connecticut Magazine “Top Doc.” Recently, his professional focus has been on community medicine and teaching.  This includes leading a number of local community initiatives promoting prevention and health equity, working as a community preceptor to residents, and serving as medical director to a local independent school. In addition, He was recently director for a federal grant project focused on preventing opioid use disorder in youth and young adults. Dr. Kalinowski is also board certified in Lifestyle Medicine and leads the Lifestyle Medicine clinic and curriculum for the residency.

What I like best about working at Middlesex…

This is my home!  I grew up here and have lived much of my life in Middlesex County.  This has always been my community hospital, and many of my family members have been cared for here through the years.  When I re-discovered Middlesex as a physician, I gained a new appreciation for their high quality of care, standards of excellence, and forward-thinking approaches.

My favorite thing to do with residents is…

Help them develop confidence and trust in their clinical judgment and instincts. I love to serve as a mentor and  witness the professional growth a resident physician experiences throughout training.

What I do for fun…

I love to travel and explore the world with my wife and two sons, searching for new experiences and adventures.  I am very interested in how health manifests in different cultures and communities.  I like to grow new vegetables in my garden and to cook with my wife. In addition, I enjoy listening to and playing music.  On Sundays, you can find me cheering on my favorite football team, the Minnesota Vikings, in search of that ever-elusive first Superbowl victory!
